Paria Buckskin Gulch Packing List

Paria Buckskin Gulch Packing List

Last year my dad hiked the Paria Buckskin Gulch. I had him share his packing list. He’s an avid thru-hiker and the type who tries to get as lightweight as possible.  Here’s what he packed for the 4-day hike.

Notes:

  • Total starting weight was 32lbs. This includes 11,000 calories and 3 liters of water.
  • The hike was at the end of June
  • Temperatures were expected to be in the 85-105F range (they ended up only being 90F)
  • There are horse flies in Paria Buckskin Gulch. That’s why tights are on the packing list.
  • The insect repellent in the picture was transferred to a smaller bottle
  • The weather forecast was good so he didn’t pack the backpack upper compartment or tent fly.
  • Rope is required at a couple of locations.
  • There was a fire north of the Grand Canyon during the hike. The sky was dark the first day and the water was full of ashes for the entire trek.
  • I personally would have brought a first aid kit. This is what’s in my kit.
